Today´s meeting started with a video that one of the club members, Angela Masai brought. It was about what would happen if there were no humanity on Earth. (Put the link to the video here Ines). The video got us thinking, ‘what is the importance of the planet?,’ ‘then what is “importance”?,’ ‘why do we care to “save” the planet?,’ and so on. During the discussion, Martino Buselli came up with this interesting … - I do not know how to phrase it - comparison between humanity and cell. He said cells are like humans and that cells make up a tissue, which are like the society in the human’s perspective. Then tissues compose an organism eventually like societies make up the world. Furthermore, he mentioned that internet is like the brain that enable interactions between different societies. There could be even brain tumors that represent crimes in the society. Other club members added onto this comparison which made the discussion even more interesting and diverse. As a cabinet member, I appreciate Angela’s commitment of bringing a highly thought-provoking video and other members’ commitments to actively participate in the discussion. However, some members or a member in this case, did not speak up and that made us (cabinet) to think of a way to induce inactive members to participate more. After a brief discussion, we decided to tell the club member to bring a topic for the following club meeting and to write a reflection for that specific meeting. We take turns writing reflections to be uploaded on the club blog anyway so I believe it was a good idea. I am content with how our club is working so far, especially considering that it is a new club, but I also think that we should start brainstorming ideas to actually do stuff like fundraising to support charities. We will discuss these next meeting.
